In 1976 the ROCKY film crew, working on a very tight budget, found the steps one night while searching for filming locations around the Philly. Sly first thought Rocky should carry his dog Butkus up the steps but the big bull mastiff was way too heavy for the scene to work! Imagine if that happened! Everyone would be carrying their dogs up the ROCKY STEPS…oh boy!! 
Speaking of good ‘ol BUTKUS…it has been said that Sylvester Stallone sold his dog for $25 to make ends meet before hitting it big with Rocky, then bought it back for $15,000! This has never been proven…but you can certainly imagine it to be true! (yeah, that was a sidetrack…back to the steps!)
